Hiring is one of the most important things that every company does. The quality of talent an organization hires directly affects the quality of the business they build.

Every company wants to hire great talent, but most fail to successfully do so consistently. Much of this is attributed to hiring teams using bad screening methods that make it hard to figure out which candidates have the right skills for the job.

Recognizing these existing failures, we wanted to help make true talent more discoverable in the hiring process. Things like resumes, credentials, applicant tracking systems and other conventional tools measure the wrong things and overlook practical job skills, which leads to bad hiring decisions.

We talked to dozens of hiring managers, recruiters and candidates to get a better understanding of the hiring experience on both sides of the table. We learned that candidates needed better ways to truly demonstrate what they're capable of, regardless of their professional background. We also learned that employers top priorities were hiring quality, time to hire and fairness.

We used these insights to begin working towards solutions, which eventually took shape as a skills based assessment platform that gives employers more objective context about candidates. Using the platform we designed, hiring managers could create and launch job relevant skills assessments within minutes and get results within hours. This would give them more and higher quality data about candidates so they can make better decisions in less time. 


Key features I designed included:

  • Assessment creation flows: A step-by-step process for hiring teams to build their own skills assessments.

  • Candidate pages: Profile page for candidates with performance data from completed assessments

  • Position detail pages: Content regarding position related data, such as top performing candidates and an overview of the current pipeline

  • Analytics dashboard: Data visualizations and graphics providing summary statistics on an organizations overall candidate pool
